| Lemon Lily Farm is a small family business specializing in hardy field grown perennials. We are located in Vermont's Lake Champlain Islands (USDA zone 4), where we have strong winter winds and unreliable snow cover. Our plants have to be cold hardy and disease resistant. That's one reason we grow so many varieties of daylillies. They're tough and beautiful, they make a wonderful addition to the perennial border and they're outstanding on their own.
My husband's family began farming here in the 1840's. They raised sheep, bees, vegetables and apples. Now we keep a few cows and sheep as pets and use the land to grow perennials. I majored in horticulture at the University of Vermont and have been in the Nursery business for the last 20 years, most recently providing local garden design and installation services. My husband Hobie works on the farm mowing, mulching, pruning and weeding. We are busy working outside April through November but during the coldest winter months, I like to stay close to the fire knitting, sewing and tie dyeing. |
